Sri Sridhara Venkatesha Ayyaval was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu, and he has seen his presence everywhere in the world. Even he finds the chanting of “RAMA NAMA” in the sounds raised by the animals and birds. According to him, he finds Lord Rama in each and every thing, and he got such a great bhakti on Lord Rama.
He also composed and sung various beautiful songs on Lord Rama, and used to sing in the courts of various kings, and got lot of price money for that. But he has spent the money towards construction of temples.
Sri Sridhara Ayyaval was born in Mysore. His father has served as a minister in the Mysore court, and he was a great scholar in Vedas and Shastras, and he was a devotee of Lord Shiva and Lord Rama. Sri Ayyaval was specialized in Vedas and Shastras at his young age, and became a great scholar. At his teenage, he got married with a pious, noble and a chaste lady, and her name was Lakshmi. After the death of his father, he was not interested in leading a normal life, and went to many holy places, and finally reached Trichy, and worshipped Lord Sriranganathar in Srirangam, and composed divine songs on Lord Ranganatha, and sung before the main shrine of the temple. He lived a simple life by taking alms. His wife who was very good in nature, stayed with him throughout in his life, and served him in a proper manner.
In Trichy, he performed lot of miracles in the life of the devotees, like curing the illness of a child, removing the evil spirit from the body of a girl, and cured the mental disorders of various patients. After some time, he travelled to Thanjavur, and met King Shahaji, and due to his compulsion, he stayed with him for some time, and composed and sung several songs on Lord Brihadeeswara at the Tanjore Big Temple, and he was praised for his great knowledge and talents by the entire people of Tanjore. He was also awarded the title of “SANGEETHA VIDWAN” and “SANGEETHA KALANIDHI” by the king.
Sri Ayyaval was a contemporary of Sri Bodhendra Swamigal, who resided at his ashram at Govindapuram. Both of them loved each other and shared their spiritual knowledge. Sri Ayyaval was a devotee of Lord Shiva and Lord Rama, and he composed lot of songs in praise of both Rama and Shiva.
Once through his supreme powers, he has brought the holy river Ganges in his well. Both Sri Ayyaval and Sri Bodhendraal,established the tradition of chanting of gods names, which is also known as NamaSangeerthan, in the South India. After his death, hehas attained MUKTI.
