Sri Somnath temple is located in the upcoming town referred as Prabhas patan (Birapasa pattinam), in Junagadh district of Gujarat in Western India. The chief deity of this temple is Somnath (Lord Shiva) and his consort is none. The holy tree of this temple is wild Mango tree. The holy water of this temple is spring water.

The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is about 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this region is Prabhas Patan or Birapasa pattinam.

The primary festivals of this particular temple are Shivaratri in Feburary-March, Skanda Sashti in October-November, Deepavalli, Regional and English New Year days are devotionally celebrated in this temple.

People from within the state and its neighboring state like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh visit this temple on all Lord Shiva related auspicious days and festival days. Special pujas and rituals are performed to the lord.

In this shrine, the Lord is a Swayambhu murthi (self manifested Shivalinga). The temple is open for all from 5.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. According to the temple priest, the spring water has the power to cure all the disease and heal too.

During the festive days and auspicious days, the shrine is open for long hours. As per the local legends, this temple is a wish fulfiller shrine among the devotees and pilgrims. It is the most sought after shrine in this state. There are plenty of bus services from the head quarter to this temple town with frequent schedule.
