The Singhi Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee, which is one of the oldest puja organisers in Kolkata are recreating the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple of Madurai , Tamil Nadu as their theme for the year 2012. The idol will be a 23 feet Ekchala pattern of Durga idol crafted by famous Mohan Bansi Rudra Pal.
The pandal which is a replica of Meenakshi Amman Temple is fully decorated by innumerable sculptures of Hindu deities. The sculptures are recreated by thermocol figures.
Singhi Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja committee is one of the oldest in Kolkata and are celebrating their 71st year of Durga Puja. Standing apart from the current trend of theme pujas, the Singhi Park has still continued the traditional way of worshipping the Goddess and maintained itself a class apart. However over the years, the pandal creation has been very innovative and as always accompanied by lighting from chandannagar.
