Sathuragiri Hills | Chathuragiri | Sundara Mahalingam near Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu

Sathuragiri Hill is a holy mountain, which is located near Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu. It is also called as Sivan Malai, since it is believed that Lord Shiva dwells in the Mountain temple. In the top of the hill, two famous Shiva temples are located and it is known as Sundara Mahalingam Temple, and Sri Santhana Mahalingam Temple. Devotees used to visit this temple especially on Amavasya and Pournami days.

The devotees are allowed to have darshan of the deities between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. As per legend, Sathuragiri is formed with the powers of the four Vedas, and it is also believed that long back, Lord Brahma also worshipped Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati at this holy temple. It is believed that once Ma Parvati had performed penance on Lord Shiva at this sacred place, in order to get half portion of his body.

In the top of the hill, apart from the two Shiva temples, separate shrines for Lord Vinayaka, Lord Muruga, Navagraha Shrines and Shrines for guardian deities like Pechi Amman and KaruppaSwamy are also available.

During our trip to this Mountain temple, we should carry some snacks and water bottles with us, since no shops are available nearby the temple. We should carry only light luggage, since it is very difficult to climb the mountain with heavy luggage. If we prefer to travel during night time, we should carry a torch light with us. In the temple shrines, we can also offer annadanam to the devotees, since providing food to the Shiva devotees at this temple is considered as a very sacred act. Even if we walk faster, it would take a minimum of 5 hours to reach the hill temple. While climbing in the hill, we should keep chanting the Shiva Mantra, and should avoid unnecessary talks with others.

Some wild animals are also seen in the mountain, and hence we should be very careful, and we should always go in a troupe in order to avoid unnecessary panic during our travel. We can also seek the help of the travel guide during our holy trip, since he would help us for a safe journey, and he would also arrange for performing special pujas inside the temple.

We can contact Sri.Raja at Krishnan Koil : Cell No:’9944415474′, in order to get more information about the Sathuragiri Temples.
