Sashti Shraddha is the sixth day of Solah Shraddh, 16 days of Pitru Paksha. In 2025, Solah, Shashti Shraddh date is September 12.

It falls on 6th day in Krishna Paksha of Ashwin mahina of North Indian Hindi Panchangams and Bhadrapada month in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi & Gujarati panchangams.

Sashti Shraddha is a highly meritorious ritual for those who are not enjoying their married life and want to lead a good marital life with partner.

Benefits or the merits of doing Shashti Shraddha is – This day   will help those  of our ancestors who were teachers   and who might have punished  or ill treated them. This also is a thanks giving to our own teachers   who helped us get knowledge.

The best places for Shraddha rituals during Mahalaya Paksha are: River banks of Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery, Brahmaputra, etc. i.e. Varanasi (Kashi), Prayag Sangam, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gaya, Rameswaram, etc.

As per Tamil beliefs, the ideal places for Sashti Shraddha in Tamil Nadu are: Mukkoodal near Chengalpet, Sitthanakkudi Kodanda Rama Temple (near Thiruvarur – Koradacheri – Velukudi) and Poovalur near Trichy.
