Keeping up with the tradition of Dahi Handi celebrations in Borivali, a Mumbai suburb, the three-time Member of Parliament, Sanjay Nirupam already has his plans set for this year. Taking the celebration one level ahead, Nirupam has not only doubled the price money from 11 lakhs of last year to 21 lakhs this year but has also organised a nine hour long celebration for Dahi Handi with 26 singers crooning all the way along with a live DJ.
Arjun Rampal will greet his fans by breaking the Dahi Handi and to initiate a movement against the atrocities on the women of the nation. He will also dedicate this Dahi Handi to women of India and for their safety; he will appeal to public at the same time.
Dahi Handi is celebrated on the next day of Janmashtami. This festival attracts thousands of enthusiastic people from all over Maharashtra to Mumbai and Pune where the celebrations reach their peeks.
Nowadays Dahi Handi or Gopalkala has become compulsory ritual in Janmashtami celebrations. We can understand the importance and social significance of these festivals as that there are some professional groups involved with the celebrations in Mumbai and Pune.
