Samaveda Avani Avittam or Sama Vedi Upakarma is observed by Samavedi Brahmins in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
There is some confusion with the date of Sama Upakarma 2021, as almost all calendars mentioned it as 9 September but few calendars mentioned it as otherwise (13 August). Hindupad suggests the devotees to follow the suggestion of local pundits / local panchangams.
Samaveda Upakarma is generally observed on Hasta Nakshatra day in Bhadrapada Month (Aavani Masam).

Upakarma consists of two parts. Upakarma (action Redemption) and Uthsarjana (learning of Vedas). These help the already learnt Vedic chants shine with great vigor. Any actions done with such strengthened Vedic chants , would give good and better results. Due to our using Vedic chants for various purposes as well as our not being in a position to follow all the rules, make such chanting of Vedas very weak. So it is necessary to do Upakarma and Uthsarjana every year.
