Rongali Bihu or Bohag Bihu is the Assamese New Year celebrated in mid April. In 2026, Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu date is April 15.

Actually, Bohag Bihu is celebrated for 7 days but nowadays it is confined for 3 days. Goru Bihu, Manuh Bihu, and Gosai Bihu are the three festivals of Rongali Bihu.

Rongali Bihu or Bohag Bihu 2026 dates

April 14, 2026 – Goru Bihu (30th Chot 1432)

April 15, 2026 – Manuh Bihu (Main Rongali Bihu) (1st Bohag 1433)

April 16, 2026 – Gosai Bihu (2nd Bohag 1433)

The day prior to the main Bihu is celebrated as Goru Bihu. This is the last day of the previous year and on this day cows are worshipped.

The main Bihu festival is Manuh Bihu during which Assamese houses get festive mood and decorated. The special recipes called ‘Pitha’, ‘Jolpan’, and ‘Larus’ are prepared by women and distributed among the friends and relatives.

The third day, Gosai Bihu, marks the end of Rongali bihu. On this, favorite Gods of the devotees are worshipped with utmost devotion and offered special recipes.

There are couple of other Bihu festivals – Magh Bihu (Makar Sankranti) and Kongali Bihu.
