Ratha Saptami is an auspicious day to observe Shahi Snan (Royal bath) at MahaKumbh Mela. In 2025, Ratha Saptami Shahi Snan date is February 4. Prayagraj, Allahabad, Maha Kumbh has begun on Poush Purnima and will end on Mahashivaratri.

In 2025, it was even more auspicious as the mela is Maha Kumbha Mela which is being celebrated at Allahabad Prayaga Sangam. It comes once in a Pushkara Pushkarams time (144 years).

Ratha Saptami is also considered as Surya Jayanti (Vidhan Saptami / Arogya Saptami). As the day is dedicated to the ‘Pratyaksha Paramatma’, the Shahi Snan of Ratha Saptami has great importance.

It falls on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha in Magha Month. Kalpavasi Vrata is also being celebrated during Ratha Saptami. Naga Sadhus perform special royal bath during this day.

Surya Arghya, Surya Tharpana (Tharpan or Arghya rituals to Surya Bhagavan) is the main ritual of the day.

As per the estimations, nearly 5 crore (50 Million) devotees observed Ratha Saptami Shahi Snan at Kumbh Mela 2025.
