Purusha Sukta (Purusha Suktam) is a hymn taken from Rigveda. It is dedicated to Purusha, the cosmic being. The seer of Purusha Suktham is Rishi Narayana.
The first version of Purusha Suktam has 16 verses in which 15 are in Anustubh Chandas (meter) and the final one in Tristubh meter.
The another version of Purusha Suktam has 24 verses divided as the portions of Purva Narayana and Uttara Narayana. Purva Narayana consists of the first 18 Mantras and the remaining mantras are termed as Uttara Narayana portion.
Purusha Suktham represents the original creative one as Vishwakarma, Hiranyagarbha or Prajapati. It also hints on the organic connections between various classes of the society.
