Pitru Paksha Shraddha at Falgu River, Gaya in Bihar

Pitru Paksha Shraddha is a highly observed ritual at Falgu River in Gaya, Bihar. In 2018, Pitru Paksha Shraddha is being observed from September 25 and would end on October 8 with Mahalaya Amavasya rituals. In fact, the rituals will start on 24 September 2018 with Purnima Shraddha.

Pitru Paksha, also called as Mahalaya Paksha, is a fortnight dedicated to departed souls of our forefathers and ancestors.

According to the beliefs of devotees, A demon named Gayasura often roams in the area and it attracts evil spirits. Ancestors find salvation after being purified of their sins by way of rituals performed by family members. The eldest son of a family performs the Pinda Daan and pays homage to their ancestors (Pitru Devatas).
