Neel Shasti Vrat

Neel Shasti Vrat is observed mainly in Bengal in Chaitra month. It is celebrated as the marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati. In 2018, Neel Shasti Vrat date is March 23.

Neel Shashti falls in Sashti in Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month as per Bengali calendar.

Married women observed Neel Shasti Puja to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for the heatlh, wealth and prosperity of their families. Performers fast throughout the day. In the evening they perform Shiva Puja.

Most of the devotees visit the nearby Shiva temples and Shivalinga Puja. Lord Shiva is offered milk (Ksheerabhisheka), bel leaves and flowers. Special delicacies are offered as Naivedya. After returning home, women break their fast by having Prashad.
