According to the traditional Hindu calendar, during the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Vaishakha is known as Mohini Ekadashi. It is observed and dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

In the calendars of North India, in the Vaishakha month this particular ritual falls. In other regions, in the Tamilian calendar, the same ritual occurs in Chithirai month, in the Malayalam calendar, in Edava month and in Bengali calendar, in Jyeshto mash.

In order to lead a prosperous and happy life, fasting on Mohini Ekadashi is strongly believed to eliminate all kind of sins. Those who are undergoing sadness in life will be able to successfully overcome this particular sickness.

On Mohini Ekadashi, devotees strongly believe that observing a fast is more fruitful than performing sacrifices or performing ritual baths in the holy rivers. This particular Ekadashi has much religious and social significance among the devotees. Devotees will be able to directly wash away all their sins and guilt associated with it by observing fast. Rice and food items made from grains consuming is totally avoid by all the devotees who are observing fast.

Fasting in this particular Ekadashi, assists in salvation or Moksha. All the devotees who are ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu follow this fasting for fruitful results. This Ekadashi have social and religious significance among the devotees.

Devotees involve in chanting of mantras and participation in hearing Ekadashi related stories and bhajans. They also visit temples in the early morning and worship Lord Vishnu with lot of devotion and dedication.
