The Matsya Purana (Machcha Purana) is the holy purana, and it describes about the creation, protection and destroying of the world. This is also one of the sacred puranas, and it is believed to have been written by the great sage Sri Vyasa Bhagavan.
Matsya had incarnated in this earth during the first Satya Yuga, in order to save the great Manu, the mind born son of Lord Brahma, and the Saptharishis, the seven famous sages, from a deluge and this is described as the first and the best avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Matsya appears in the form of half human, and half of a fish. During the end of the Satya Yuga, when the entire living beings were submerged into the ocean, it was the great Matsya, who had safeguarded Manu and the Saptarishis from the destruction, and made them to land safely in the Himalayas. And after some time, Manu had wonderfully started doing his creation work as per the orders of Lord Brahma.
Lord Manu is still living in the Brahma Loka along with his father Lord Brahma and assisting him in doing his creation work. He is also considered to be the brother of the great Daksha Prajapati, son of Lord Brahma, and the father of Dakshayani, who is none other than our Parvati Devi, also called as Shakti Devi and Durga Devi. After the end of this Kali Yuga, the present Manu would be merged with Lord Vishnu, and the forthcoming Manu during the next Satya Yuga is the great Bhakta Prahlada.
In this purana, importance of observing fasting on various festival days and also on other auspicious days is told, and also about the importance in doing donations like food, cloth, cow and other types of donations are also mentioned. Performance of rituals to the parents is considered as the most sacred deed for their children and by doing that, they are helping their parents to move from the Pitru Loka to the Swarga Loka.
Hence, let us make the regular habit of reading the holy Mastya Purana, and be blessed.
