Mata Yashoda Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Yashodamata, the divine Mother of Lord Krishna and the wife of Nanda. In 2023, Mata Yashoda Jayanti date is February 12.
Yashoda Mata Jayanti is observed on Krishna Paksha (Vad Paksha) Sashti in Magh Month as per Gujarati calendar. It coincides with Falgun Month in North Indian Hindi calendars.
As per the Bhagavata Purana Yasoda Mata became the foster-mother to Krishna, who was born to Devaki but was given to Yashoda and Nanda in Gokul by Vasudeva, Krishna’s father. To protect Krishna from Devaki’s brother, Kansa of Mathura, Vasudeva had given Krishna to the couple of Nanda.
Mata Yashoda Jayanti is celebrated with utmost pomp in Vrindavan Krishna Temple and ISKCON Temples all over the world.
