Mahavir Jayanti, celebrating the birth of Lord Mahavir, 24th tirthankar who established central tenets of Jainism, is the major religious day for Jains. It includes prayers, temples decoration, abhishek, processions, offerings to poor, lectures, meditations, temple visits, etc.
Mahavir Jayanti (Mahavir Janma Kalyanak) is celebrated on Shukla Trayodashi in Chaitra Month in Hindu Calendar. In 2026, Mahavir Jayanti date is March 31, Tuesday.
Jainism, an ancient religion which emphasizes non-violence and which derives its name from jinas (spiritual victors), aims at liberating the soul by freeing it from accumulated karma. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.
Mahavira was a great avatar Purusha (Great Divine Incarnation of God) who took birth in this earth in order to relieve us from the sins, and to move to the correct path. During his period, through his teachings, he made the people to live a happy and a noble life. He taught many good principles which are still helpful to the man kind.He has controlled his senses and has become a great spiritual master. In the present life scenario, we can’t imagine such a great person like him.
