Kediliappar Temple, Keezh Velur, Tiruvarur

Sri Kediliappar temple is located in the village named Keezh Velur, in the district of Tiruvarur, in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. The chief deities of this temple are Kediliappar and Akshayalinga Swami (Lord Shiva) and his consorts are Vanamulai Amman and Sundara Gujambal.

The holy trees of this temple are Badri and Ilandhai. The holy waters of this temple are Saravana poigai, Agni, Sesha, Brahmma Surya, Chandra and Kubera Theerthams. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical names of this place are Keevalur and Keezh Velur.

According to the Hindu religious scholars and pundits, “Saint Tirugnana Sambandar has praised the temple in his Thevaram hymns.  This is the 84th Lord Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery praised in hymns.” Many festrivals are celebrated in this temple, they are Chitra Poornima-full moon day in April-May Brahmmotsavam is celebrated in the temple, Shivarathri, deepavali, Panguni uthiram, Pongal, Tamil New Year, all the Ekadashi days, Chitra Purnima, Amavasyas and Sankranti.

Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy. The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Other deities in this temple are Lords Muruga, Viswanaha, Jambukeswara, Mother Badrakali, Kailasanathar, Brgatheeswarar, Annamalayar, Nataraja, Somaskanda, Dakshinamurthy and Sage Agasthya.

There are separate shrines for Lord Muruga and Kubera the Lord of Wealth in the temple. Sri Vinayaka of the temple is worshipped by the Hindus as Lord Badri Vinayaka.
