Jwalamukhi is a famous temple dedicated to goddess Jwalamukhi, and the flame burning inside the temple of the main shrine is considered as the deity of Jwalamukhi, and it is situated in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It is considered as one of the Shakti Peethas.
Once the king of Kangra, who was a great devotee of Mata Durga, has got the divine appearance of the goddess in his dream, and she asked him to build a temple for her. Due to that,the king had built a temple at Jwalamukhi town. It is believed that Mata Sati’s tongue was fallen at Jwalamukhi, and hence the goddess manifest in the temple as tiny flames.
The temple is located near the Jwalamukhi Railway Station and large number of devotees visit every day, and especially during the Durga Puja festivals. No idol is installed in the temple and the deity is worshipped in the form of hot flames. The deity is offered milk and fruits. Inside the temple, there is a holy Durga Mata Yantra which is covered with sacred clothes, and Vedic mantras are chanted. Puja and Aarti would be performed daily and Durga Stotras would be recited.
Great emperors visited this holy temple, and presented valuable articles to the temple. People believe that by visiting this temple, their life would become brighter similar to the Jwala of the Devi. Lot of pilgrims have experienced big changes in their life, after their visit to this temple.
Some villagers residing nearby the temple, are considering Mata Jwalamukhi as their Kula Devata, and regularly visiting this holy temple, and offering their prayers and performing pujas to the holy mother.
