Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai Punyatithi

Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai Punyatithi is the death anniversary of Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi. In 2018, Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai Punyatithi date is June 19.

Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi (19 November 1828 – 18 June 1858), born as Manikarnika; was the queen of the Maratha-ruled Jhansi State, situated in the north-central part of India. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and became for Indian nationalists a symbol of resistance to the British Raj.

According to some Hindu calendars, Lakshmibai Punyatithi falls on Saptami in Shukla Paksha of Jyeshta Month as per traditional Hindi Panchang. Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai was martyred on 18 June 1858 at Kotah-ki-Serai near the Phool Bagh of Gwalior. Her tomb is in the Phool Bagh area of Gwalior.

    The author of this piece has never visited either the birthplace or the place where she was cremated. At both the places, which are Government monuments, the year of birth of Maharani Lakshmibai is 1835 and not 1828.
