In Andhra Pradesh, Smartha sect of people celebrates Krishna Janmashtami in 2019 on August 23. Gokulashtami date in 2019 is also August 24 (Vaishnava Janmashtami). In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the rituals of Krishnashtami are same and followed similarly in both states.
In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Dahi Handi (Utti) or Gopalkala is the main ritual during Gokulashtami. In some places, idol of Krishna takes up to a procession and offered Aartis to the Lord. In ISKCON temples in Bangalore and Hyderabad, Janmashtami is the biggest festival to be celebrated. Hyderabad and Bangalore cities have huge population of North Indian especially Gujarati people.
