5|6 March 2015 is Holi Festival, the festival of colours and joy. It is also celebrated as Falgun Purnima, Lakshmi Jayanti, Madana Purnima, Dola Purnima, Hutashani Purnima, Gaura Purnima, etc in various places of India.
Most of the North Indian communities celebrate Holi on 6th March. In South India, Holi festival is on 5th March.
Holi festival marks the end of Holashtak, an avoidable period of 8 days prior to Holi.
Holi festival is mentioned in many ancient Hindu Scriptures and Puranas. Holi, also known as Holika, is an ages old Hindu festival. Ancient hindu scriptures, ‘Purvamimamsa-Sutras’ and ‘Kathaka-Grhya-Sutras’ written by Jaimini explained the history, legend, stories and significance of Holi festival.
It is said that Holi was celebrated by Aryans in early civilization of India (people of Harappa and Mohenzodaro civilizations).
