The Hyderabad Metropolitan Developmental Authority (HMDA) has decided to procure 40,000 clay Ganesh idols of eight inches size to be sold at discounted prices in eight locations within the city.
The locations include the HMDA head office at Tarnaka, Lumbini Park, NTR Garden, BPP office, Saroornagar Priyadarshini Park, Narayanaguda Melkote Park, Rajiv Gandhi Vanasthalipuram Park and Swarnajayanthi Commercial Complex at Ameerpet.
The clay idols that are being procured would be as per a specified model from the artisans, agencies who have experience in manufacturing the idols in large numbers and are willing to supply. Officials said that the HMDA had taken up various activities for protection of the lakes and water bodies in and around Hyderabad and more particularly Hussain Sagar Lake.
According to government instructions, HMDA distributes eco-friendly Ganesh idols every year to the public at discounted prices through the Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, schools, HSL, clubs and also directly by the HMDA at designated locations.
HMDA has placed orders to the selected agencies to supply clay idols before August end.
