Eighth day of Navratri: Mahagauri Puja, Mahishasura Mardhini Puja & Matangi Puja

20 October 2015 is the eighth day of Navratri Durga Puja. This day marks Durga Ashtami / Maha Ashtami / Virashtami.

Colour of the day: Pink

Naivedyam of the day: Chakra Pongali is offered as Naivedyam in South India. In North India, on Mahanavami day food is offered to Goddess Durga and is distributed among needy people.

As per Navadevi Durga puja sampradaya, Devi Durga is adorned and worshipped as Goddess Mahashasura Mardhini Devi (Mahishasuramardhini alankaram).

Mahagauri Navdurga is worshipped as part of Navadurga Puja.

Matangi Maa is the Goddess to worship on Maha Navami as part of Dasamahavidya puja in Navratri.

Mukteshwari Devi Puja is observed as per Saptamatrika and Ashtamatrika puja rituals.

Mahashtami Puja is observed during Durga Puja in Bengal.
