Dhanteras falls on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in Ashwin Month as per Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu & Kannada calendars and in Kartik Month as per North Indian Hindi calendars.
Business communities perform Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras. Buying gold or silver on this day is considered highly auspicious.
This day is also observed as Dhanvantari Jayanti. Lord Dhanvantari is the Lord of Ayurveda (Indian Traditional Medicine) in Hinduism.
Govatsa Dwadasi is also observed on this day. Gau Puja (Go Poojan) and Nandini Vrat are the rituals performed on this day.
