6 December 2014 is Dattatreya Jayanti (Guru Datta Jayanti). It is the first appearance day of Lord Dattatreya, the avatara of Trimurthi (Brahma, Vishnu & Maheshwara). In 2014, Shastriya Datta Jayanti was on December 5th and Vyavaharik Datta Jayanti is on 6th December.
Datta Jayanti is observed on Margashirsha Purnima, Full Moon day in Margashirsha Month of Hindu calendar. In some places it is also celebrated on a day prior to Margashirsha Purnima, Margashirsha Shukla Chaturdasi.
