Chidambara Swamigal (Chidambaram Swami – 19th century AD) was born in a pious family at Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. Since he was born in a poor family, he didn’t complete his formal education, and used to graze the Sheep. His father was a siddha doctor and cured diseases of the poor people using herbs by charging only a nominal fee. His parents were sincere devotees of Lord Shiva, and spent their life towards providing proper medical aid to the people, and doing service to the god.
From his younger age itself, Sri Chidambara Swamigal was deeply involved in spirituality, and used to spend his time by doing shiva puja at his home by collecting the Bilva leaves from the tree and used to pluck various fragrant flowers which are suitable for the Shiva puja. He was also a great devotee of Lord Muruga, and visited and worshipped Palani Andavar in Palani. He was very kind with the animals and he used to feed milk to the snakes without getting afraid of them.
At his teenage, he left the village and went on a long pilgrimage and visited many holy places. He used to wear only a piece of cloth, and ate food by taking alms, and was always in deep thoughts on Lord Shiva.
He used to meditate for a long time in the forest areas, and never cared about his body, and attained the divine bliss of the god through his spiritual powers. He followed the foot-steps of Ramalinga Vallalar, and lived his life as per his teachings, though he never met him personally. He also solved the personal problems of the people by worshipping Lord Shiva on their behalf and removed the sufferings in their life.
The Samadhi of Sadhu Chidambaram Swami is situated nearby his ancestral house in Tuticorin.
Let us worship the great saint and be blessed.
