Bhootni Amavasya

Bhootni Amavasya is a major festival celebrated at Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh. It comes twice in every year. In 2014, Bhootni Amavasya dates are – March 30 and September 24.

The first Bhootni Amavasya falls in Chaitra Month – Chaitra Amavasya and the second one in Ashwin Month – Ashwin Amavasya as per the traditional North Indian Hindi calendar followed in Madhya Pradesh.

Lakhs of devotees throng Omkareshwar Temple on Bhootni Amavasya and perform Punya Snan in Narmada river. After having ritual bath, devotees would have darshan of Shri Omkareshwar.

In 2013, Bhootni Amavasya dates were – 10 April and 4 October 2013.
