Ardha Shravanik Vrat

Ardh Shravanik Vrat is observed in Shravan Month. In 2025, Ardh Shravanik Vrat date is July 25. It is a month-long vrata.

Ardha Shravanik Vrata begins on Shukla Paksha Pratipada in Shravan Maas and ends on the last day of Shravan. Ekbhukth or Nakt Vrata is a major part of this Vrata (performer observes ‘only one time food in a day’).

During this month-long vrata, ‘Ardh Shravani’ (a form of Goddess Parvati) is worshipped and offered naivedya daily. On the concluding day of Vrata, Kumari Puja or Brahmin Santarpana is performed Vrata kartha.

Ardhashravanik Vrat as described in the Hemadri Vratakhand is a month-long vrata observed during the Shravan month, beginning from Shukla Paksha Pratipada (first day of the bright half) and ending on the last day of Shravan. It involves Ekbhuktha or Nakt Vrata, meaning the devotee takes only one meal a day, typically at night.

During this vrata, devotees worship Ardh Shravanik, a form of Goddess Parvati, daily offering naivedya (food offerings) and prayers. The vrata emphasizes devotion, self-discipline, and austerity, purifying the body and mind throughout Shravan.

On the final day of the vrata, special rituals like Kumari Puja (worship of young girls symbolizing purity and the goddess) or Brahmin Santarpana (feeding Brahmins) are performed to conclude the observance.

This vrata is rooted in traditional Hindu practices of monthly austerities that honor divine feminine energy (Devi) and align devotees spiritually during the auspicious Shravan month, which is dedicated to Shiva and Parvati worship. The Hemadri Vratakhand details the rituals, observance period, and spiritual benefits associated with Ardhashravanik Vrat aiming at purification, grace, and divine blessings.
