He is also considered to be one among the Saptarishis. He is the son of Lord Brahma and he had three children. As per ancient vedas, he is also considered to be a great singer, who sings in praise of the Trimurtis: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. His name is also mentioned in Buddhist texts. He is also considered as one of the prajapatis, similar to that of Lord Daksha.
