Ancient Brahmins worshipped Brahma Deva as their Main God

Lord Brahma

Lord Brahma

Most of the Ancient Brahmins who belong to the Vedic period, worshipped only the creator god BrahmaDev, by considering him as their main god. Since Lord Brahma contains the four Vedas on his hand, and since he is classified as the Vedic deity, and since the word Brahmin has arisen from the word Brahma, most of the Brahmins were given top most priority in worshipping the four head god Brahma. During ancient marriage ceremonies also, the pictures of Lord Brahma would decorate in the marriage hall, since the Brahmins consider Lord Brahma as the Divine Vedic Priest!

Apart from Brahma, the ancient Brahmins were also worshipped the nature gods such as Lord Vayu, the god of wind, Lord Agni, the god of fire, Lord Akash Dev, the Lord of skies, Lord Varuna, the god of water, Ma Bhudevi, the earth goddess. In fact, some temples of Lord Brahma were also constructed, and apart from Brahmins, the other sects of Hindus also worshipped Lord Brahma by strongly believing that he was their real saviour. But while the temples of Lord Shiva and Vishnu were destroyed by the Muslim kings, the temples of Lord Brahma were also demolished by them.

Ancient newly wedded couples used to perform special Homams and holy bath to the creator god Brahma, in order to give birth to a pious child. Everywhere, the word, “BRAHMA”, “BRAHMA DEV”, were being recited by the Vedic scholars, and a big share of oblation was also given to Lord Brahma during the time of performance of fire rituals by the Vedic priests.

Though in some Puranas, Brahma was mentioned only as a secondary god, ancient people considered those stories to be fictitious ones, and gave much importance to Brahma worship.
But after the emergence of the Chera, Chola and Pandya Kings, Shaivism and Vaishnavism sects were gained much importance, and in course of time, Lord Brahma Dev was considered only as a minor deity, similar to Lord Surya, Chandra and Indra, and people began to give only less importance to his worship. But still now, we can find separate shrines of Lord Brahma, in most of the Shiva Temples, and those who worship Lord Shiva, would worship Lord Brahma also, since Lord Brahma Devonly creates us, and since he also acts as our Divine Parent, we have to worship him compulsorily.
