Amkari Aatham Vrat (Oamkar Ashtami, Oamkari Ashtami) is observed in Bhadrapad Maas as per North Indian and other Amavasyant Calendars. In 2025, Amkarti Aatham Vrat date is August 31.
Oamkari Ashtami is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. This Vrat is observed by married women for eight years from the year of their wedding. It begins on Bhadrapad Shukla Ashtami tithi.
The performer of this Vrata gets up in the early morning, before sunrise, and completes all her domestic chores. A Mandap is prepared at the puja place. And on that mandap, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Ganesha idols made of clay are installed. Shodashopachar Pujan is observed for the divine couple and their son.
After the completion of Shodashopachar Puja, Amkar Asthami Vrat Katha is read, recited or listened by the performer.
