Amavasya Today, 1 June 2011

Today is Amavasya (1 June 2011), the No Moon day in Hinduism. It is Jyeshta Amavasya in North Indian Hindi calendars. Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, and Telugu calendars consider it as Vaishakh Amavasya. Amavasya begins at 1.38 am on 1 June 2011 and ends at 2.32 am on 2 June 2011.

Solar Eclipse or Surya Grahan occurring today (1 & 2 June 2011) will be visible from North Canada, Norway, Iceland, Alaska of USA, North Korea, China, Japan, and some other places near North Pole. It will not be visible in India, USA, UK, UAE, Australia, Africa, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Asian countries.

Amavasya in June 2011 is also observed as Shani Jayanthi / Shaneswar Jayanti (birthday of Lord Shani). In Bengal, Falharini Kalika Puja is also observed on this Amavasya.

This Amavasya marks the end of Vaishakh Month in Amavasyanth calendars and the next day marks the beginning of Jyeshta month.
