21 April 2015 is Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya Tritiya is also popular as Akha Teej, Aksha Thadiya, Akshaya Thadige, Akshaya Trithiyai.
Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Vaishakh Month as per Purnimant and Amavasyant Calendars followed in North India, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
In 2015, Akshaya Tritiya falls in Chithirai Masam of Tamil Calendar, Meda Masam of Malayalam calendar and Baisakh Month in Bengali Panjika.
Akshaya Tritiya is considered as one of the highly auspicious days in Hindu Astrology. It is referred to as one of the ‘Sade Teen Muhurat’ (3 and half important and auspicious muhurats in Hindu Vedic Astrology). It is believed that any auspicious event like new venture, education, or any other good deed started on this day would become successful and yield the fruits of success. Hence, many couple set their marriage on this day. Like every year, this year also Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious muhurat for marriage, Grihapravesh, etc..
Chandan Yatra is held in Puri Jagannath Temple on Akshaya Tritiya. Chandanotsavam is also performed in Simhachalam Narasimha Swamy Temple, Andhra Pradesh.
Chardham Yatra begins on Akshaya Tritiya. Pilgrimage to Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath is collectively known as Chardham Yatra.
On Akshaya Tritiya Lakshmi Pujan, Lakshmi Kubera Pujan, Ashtalakshmi Puja, Vaibhava Lakshmi Puja, Sampada Lakshmi Puja, Gauri Puja, Gauramma Nomu, Sri Krishna Chandana Puja, etc are performed.
There is also a belief that buying gold or silver or any other useful home appliances on Akshaya Tritiya is highly auspicious and will bring more such items to the home of the purchaser.
