Akkanna Madanna Temple, Hyderabad

Akkanna Madanna Temple in Hyderabad is one of the oldest temples in Telangana. It is popular for its Bonalu festival of the twin cities (Hyderabad and Secunderabad). ‘Ghatam Procession’ is the most popular event celebrated at Akkanna Madanna Temple during Bonalu festival.

History and Sthala Puranam

The brothers, Akkanna and Madanna, used to worship the Goddess Mahakali at this temple everyday. After the death of these brothers, the temple was closed.

In 1940-50, the temple has been revived from the debris of Haribowli at Shalibanda. Before the temple was restored and rebuilt, a very few people had the knowledge of the existence of Akkanna Madanna Temple.

In the year 1998, the temple was attacked by a group of anti social elements. The attackers partly destroyed the idol and the temple belongings.
