Akhanda Deepam for Navaratri Durga Puja (Akhand Jyoti) is very significant as it should be there till the conclusion of the Puja. Kalasha (Ghata) and Akhanda Deepam are the two significant aspects of Navratri Puja.
How to choose the place for Akhanda Deepam
Choose a suitable place for Akhanda Deepam where no wind passes through the diya. You need to check the diya once in a while and put some oil whenever it needs.
How to prepare Akhand Diya
Take a copper plate or Bhoja Patra and draw a ‘Shatkona’ with Kumkum and write ‘OM HREEM KLEEM CHAMUNDAYAI VICHCHAI’ on that. Then install ‘Ghee diya’ on Shatkona while chanting any Devi mantra.
After that chant ‘Devi Deepadhara Yatraya Namaha’ mantra. Then lit the diya, and pray to the Diya that it should rise with good light and no obstacle should occur till your puja is completed.
This Diya should be there till Navratri ends. Install a small diya just beside the Akhand diya, whenever you put oil and adjust the Akhand diya, lit the small diya and keep it lighting.
To protect Akhand diya from wind and insects, cover it with glass article or with a clay pot with holes.
