Durga Mata
Durga Devi is the 8th day Alankaram in Vijayawada Dasara Navaratri 2022, 3 October – Maha Ashtami. During Dasara Sharan Navaratri of Kanakadurga Temple, each day one of the forms of Goddess Durga is worshipped.
On eighth day this year, Kanakadurga Mata is decorated in the form of Sri Durga Devi and worshipped. This Ashtami Navratri falls on Ashwayuja Shukla Paksha Ashtami tithi.
During Sharad Navaratri celebrations on the day with ashtami tithi the Goddess appears as Durga Devi in Her grand divine form warding off misfortunes. The Puranas declare that Mother killed a Demon by name Durgamasura in this manifestation, which is the first form in the great five natural forms. She graces man entangled in earthly worldly bonds and leads him towards salvation.
Worshipping Mother Durga, radiating brilliant glory in million manners, removes problems caused by enemies and gives victory. By chanting Mother’s name tribulations due to the bad planetary positions are avoided. She graces Her worshippers and fulfils their wishes. Red coloured clothes, red rice grains and red flowers are to be used for Her worship. Durga suktam should be recited.
The mantra “OMduMdurgaayainamaha” should be chanted. Rice cooked with green gram and mixed vegetables should be offered. Durga and Lalitha ashtotra must be read.

8th Day Alankarams in Previous Years
In 2017, Goddess Durga Devi was worshipped on 8th day of Navratri – 28 September.
In 2016, Goddess Saraswati was worshipped on the 8th day. In 2015, due to Vriddhi Tithis, Goddess Saraswati was worshipped on 8th day of Navratri. In 2014, due to shuffle in tithis, Goddess Kanakadurga was worshipped in two forms – Durga Devi and Mahishasura Mardhini Devi on Durga Ashtami day.
In 2013, due to shuffle in tithis, Goddess Kanakadurga was worshipped in two forms – Durga Devi and Mahishasura Mardhini Devi on Durga Ashtami day.
Last year (2012), Goddess Durga Devi was the Ashtami day Alankaram in Vijayawada Temple. The Alankarams of Navratri puja differs from year to year depending on the Nakshatras and Temple’s Agama Shasthra.
Also advise the next alakaram at Vijayawada Temple which will be a good guidance for devotees to prepare for the next day. Besides, give a list of nine days alankarams and Prasadams seperately for each day just before the beginning of the Dasara. This is only a suggestion.
