14 January 2013, Maha Kumbh Mela begins in Allahabad

Today, 14 January 2013 Maha Kumbh Mela begins in Allahabad Prayag Sangam. Purna Kumbh Mela is held once in 12 years.

Kumbh Mela is the largest religious congregation in the world. This time, 2013, it is being held in Allahabad which is on the banks of Triveni Sangam, confluence of three holy rivers – Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.

Kumbh Mela begins on Makar Sankranti and ends with Maha Shivaratri snan on 10 March 2013.

There are six major bathing dates in Kumbh Mela – Makar Sankranti, Paush Purnima, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri.

Here is the list of Kumbh Mela 2013 main bathing dates with expecting number of pilgrims

Makar Sankranti Snan: 14 January 2013 (Shahi Snan – Royal Bath) – 110 lakhs

Paush Punrima: 27 January 2013 – 55 lakhs

Mauni Amavasya: 10 February 2013 (Shahi Snan – Royal Bath) – 305 lakhs

Basant Panchami: 15 February 2013 (Shahi Snan – Royal Bath) – 193 lakhs

Maghi Purnima: 25 February 2013 – 165 lakhs

Mahashivratri: 10 March 2013 – 55 lakhs
