Tulasi Puja, worshipping the divine Tulasi Tree, is an auspicious ritual throughout the year for Hindu women. They particularly consider it as daily ritual during Kartik month, Shravan month, etc. What is the significance or Mahatmyam of Tulasi Puja? Various Puranas and Holy Scriptures described the importance of Tulasi Puja with great slokas and stotras.
Tulasi puja mahima is mentioned in Skanda Purana, Padma Purana, Hari Bhakti Vilasam, Srimad Bhagavatham, Bruhad Brahma Purana, Vishnu Dharmattharam, Kalika Purana, Matsya Suktam, Vasudeva Upanishad, etc.
While having darshan of Tulasi mata, chant the below Tulasi mantram.
Devi Vishnu priye maata tulasi namosthuthe
Hari darshana deeparbih praseeda dwija vallabhe
While touching Tulasi tree, chant the below mantram:
Vaikunta padabja vasini priyadarshine
Sprushami thwaam mahapaapa samchayaan may pranashaya
The below slokam from Mahabharatam explains the Tulasi puja benefits in detail:
Tulasi sparshanam snanam – tulasi sparshanam tapah
Tulasi sparshanam muktih – tulasi sparshanam vratham
It means only touching Tulasi tree can clear all our sins and it gives the results that are equal to ritual bath, penance, salvation, and observing a vratham.
As per the Skanda Puranam:
Tulasi dala lakshena yorchayeth dwaraka priyam
Janamayutha sahasraanam paapasya kuruthe kshayam
Those who perform Sri Krishna Puja with Tulasi leaves would get rid of the sins that he or she committed in thousands of births.
In Padma Puranam:
Tulasi dala lakshena karthike yorcha yeddharim
Pathre pathre munishreshta moukthikam labhathe phalam
Those who worship Lord Vishnu with Tulasi leaves in Karthika month will get rid of his / her sins in lakhs of births and get salvation.
According to Hari Bhakti Vilasam:
Tulasi manjaree bhiryah kuryaddhari haraarchanam
Nasagarbha gruham yaathi mukthi bhaagee bhavennarah
Those who worship Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu with Tulasi leaves will not get next birth means he/she attains salvation.
In Srimad Bhagavatha:
Drushtwa gadhadharam devam kshetre sri purushottame
Yat punyam samavapnothi tulasee darshana chhathath
Visiting Tulasi tree is equally auspicious and beneficial as visiting Hari Kshetram (Harikshetram is a holy place where the presiding deity is Lord Vishnu).
Tulasi Vivah Puja or Tulasi Saligram Vivah Puja is an auspicious ritual to perform in Kartik month on Uthwana Ekadashi or Ksheerabdhi Dwadashi or Kartik Purnima day.
