Shravan Shukravar puja or Puja on Fridays in Shravan month is considered as highly auspicious vrat in many communities of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Shravan Shukravar Puja 2012 starts on 20 July in the above states with utmost gaiety. Large numbers of devotees throng the temples around the states and worshipped the Goddess. While Kannada and Telugu women perform Lakshmi Puja on Fridays of Shravana masam, Marathi and Gujarati women observe Jara Jivantika Vrat. Shravan Shukravar Vrat 2012 dates are – July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10 & August 17.
Goddess Mahalakshmi is the main Goddess to worship on Fridays in Shravan month. On the first Friday, Sampath Lakshmi vratam or Sampada Lakshmi puja is observed in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. 4 week-long Mahalakshmi Puja begins on first Shukravar with Mahalakshmi Sthapana Pujan. The second Friday of the month is observed as Varalakshmi Vratam or Varadalakshmi Puja. Varada Lakshmi Puja is also performed by Marathi women. Malahalkshmi Vrat Samapana or Udwasana or Udhyapan is performed on fourth Shukrawar of Shravan month.
In some places Vaibhav Lakshmi Vratam, Siddha Lakshmi vrat, and Ashtalakshmi puja are also performed during Shravan Shukrawar.
