Shani Amavasya is an auspicious day to worship Lord Shani. As the name suggests, Amavasya falls on Shanivar (Saturday) is referred to as Shani Amavasya. In 2012, Shani Amavasya date is September 15. It is Bhadrapad Amavasya in North Indian Hindi calendar. Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu & Kannada calendars consider it as Adhik Bhadrapad Amavasya. Aavani Amavasya and Chingam Amavasya are the names of this amavasya in Tamil and Malayalam calendars respectively.
