Goddess Shitala Mata
Sheetala Satam, Shitala Satam or Shitala Saptami is observed in Gujarati Sravana month on the seventh day of Vad Paksh (dark fortnight). In 2025, Sheetala Satam date is August 15. In North India, Shitala Saptami is also observed on July 31.
This vrata is dedicated to Goddess Shitala Mata. Shitala mata puja is the main ritual of the day. Devotees eat cold meal (the food cooked on Randhan Chhath day) during the day.
Shitala Mata image or idol is installed and offered shodashopachar puja. The Skanda Purana describes the appearance and iconography of Shitala Mata. She rides a donkey and holds a broom. With her broom she blasts all the diseases especially Smallpox. Women devotees worship the Goddess for the wellbeing of their children. Sheetala Satam Vrat katha is mentioned in the Bhavishyottar Purana.
