Karikkakom Sri Chamundi Devi Temple is also popularly known as Karikkakom Devi Temple. It is located in Karikkakom, in the district of Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala. It is nearly seven kilometers east of Trivandrum.
This particular temple is blessed with panoramic evergreen scenery and dotted with coconut palm trees, channels and backwaters in the backdrop. It is one of the renowned and most ancient shrines of Kerala.
It is to be noted that the Sreekovil plus sub shrines Mukha Mandapam and Chuttu Madapam were successfully completed under the guidance of Sree Kkanipayoor Krishnan Nampoothiri according to the ancient architectural principles.
Only on Sunday, Thused and Fridays, this temple was opened in the ancients times but now it is opened for devotees all the days. It is open for morning and evening hour oujas only. Regardless of caste, creed and race, all the devotees enter this particular temple.
The important shrines of this temple are Yakshi Amma, Bhala Chamundi, Bhuvanesweri, Rektha Chamundi, Ayira valli, Vinayaka, Yogiswaran etc. The important pujas performed in this temple are Iswaraseva, pushbabhishekam, Udayasthamana puja, Ayilyam puja, Archana for Nagar, Nurum palum etc.
On the days of purnima, special pujas and rituals are conducted in this temple for the devotees in a grand manner. Devotees from the nook and corner of the state plus devotees from Tamil Nadu visit this particular temple with great devotion and dedication during the religious auspicious days and festive days.
