Ganesh Jayanti is the birthday or Jayanthi of Lord Ganesha observed on Magha Shukla Paksha Chaturthi, the fourth day in the month of Magha especially in Maharashtra, some parts of Karnataka and Goa. In 2013, maghi Ganesh Jayanti date is February 13.
It is observed as a grand event in all Ganesh temples in Maharashtra and households as well.
Palkhi Yatra is celebrated on Ganesh Jayanti in Morgaon Ganesha Temple (Mayureshwar Mandir / Shri Moreshwar Mandir) in Pune district of Maharashtra.
Lord Ganesha
Lord Ganesh is worshipped with Shodashopachar puja and offered special recipes as naivedya. Special recipes are prepared with Til or sesame. Hence the festival is also known as Til Kund Chaturthi or Tila Kunda Chavithi. The popular Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi is celebrated in Bhadrapad month (August – September).

A website called as cyberastro has published 22nd jan 2011 – magh krishna paksha chaturthi as date for Ganesha Birthday. When I checked with them, they got upset and said they have done proper checking. Can you please advise who can verify this .Thanks

Magh Shukla Paksha Chaturthi is known as Ganesh Jayanti not Krishna Paksha Chaturthi… Ganesh Jayanti 2013 date is February 13
