Who is Bhishma?
Bhishma was son of King Shantanu and the river goddess Ganga. Shantanu was left alone by Ganga after Bhishmas birth. Bhishma was a great warrior, sage and a perfect man of great renunciation. He was the Commander-in-Chief of the Kaurava armed forces in the Mahabharata war (Kurukshetra Yudh). Bhishma led a celibate life, sacrificing his whole life for the sake of his father, Shantanu.
