Renuka Devi Kalyanotsavam in Balkampet Yellamma temple in Hyderabad is one the biggest temple festivals in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is celebrated for three days in Ashada Masam as per traditional Telugu calendar followed in Andhra Pradesh. In 2012, Yellamma Kalyanotsavam at Balkampet temple will be celebrated from June 26 to June 28. Edurukolu utsavam, Kalyanotsavam and Rathotsavam are three popular events during this religious extravaganza.
In 2012, Rathotsavam will be on June 27, Wednesday. As per the temple administration, more than 2.5 lakh devotees are expected to visit the temple during this event.
Balkampet Yellamma temple in Hyderabad is one of the famous temples dedicated to Goddess Yellamma, a traditional manifestation of Goddess Parvati or Shakti.
Sri Yellamma Devasthanam is considered to be existing since 15th century and has got today’s renovated form in the year 1919 as per the historical data available. The unique feature of this temple is the presiding deity of Yellamma lies 10 feet beneath the ground level (bhoogarbha swayambhu vigraham).
