Yathi Mahalaya, Sanyasi Shraddh, Yateenam Mahalayam, Yathi Dwadashi Shraddh falls on Dwadashi Shraddh. In 2018, Yathi Mahalaya date is October 6.

It is an auspicious day to offer Shraddh rituals to Yathis (Saints, Sadhus, Sanyasis, Rishis, etc). The holy people those who involved in writing, compiling, and structuring of Hindu scriptures are offered tharpan, pinda daan and other shraddh rituals on this day.

Yathi Dwadasi falls on 12th day of Pitru Paksha, Dwadasi in Krishna Paksha of Ashwin Month in North Indian Hindi calendar and in Bhadrapada Month as per Amavasyant Panchangams of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashatra, Gujarat and Karnataka.

Apart from the sacred spots like Varanasi, Gaya, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Allahabad Prayag Sangam; Ramagiri near Surattapalli, Devar Malai near Karur, Thakkolam near Chennai, Ootathoor are considered auspicious places for Yathi Dwadasi shraddh as per Tamil beliefs.
