Vishu, 15 April 2014

15 April 2014 is Vishu in Kerala. Vishu is the Malayalam Zodiac New Year day. It is the first day of Medam Month in Malayalam calendar (Kolla Varsham).

This festival is also celebrated as Bisu festival in Tulu Nadu region in Karnataka and Chithirai Vishu (Puthandu) in Tamil Nadu. In some places Vishu is known as Bishu.

Vishukani is the most important ritual on Vishu festival in Kerala. Vishukani 2014 darshanam in Sabarimala Temple is given in the post of Vishukani darshanam 2014.

Vishu Phalam or Vishubhalam are the special predictions prepared by Malayalam Astrologers. It is believed reading or knowing Vishu Phalam of that year on Vishu gives a good start for the year.

Vishu festival also marks the day of Mesha Sankranti or Mesha Sankraman during which Sun transits to the first zodiac – Mesha Rashi or Aries zodiac. Literally, Vishu means equal and signifies one of the equinox. Malayalam calendar is also known as Kollavarsham.

Vishu festival or the first day of Medam month is considered as the astrological New Year day whereas the official Malayalam New Year starts in Chingam month (August – September).
