Vijaya Ekadasi, also known as Kalyana Ekadasi, is an auspicious Ekadasi vrata observed on Krishna Paksha in Falgun month in North Indian Hindi calendar and in Magh month as per Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, and Kannada calendars. In 2011, Vijaya Ekadasi date is 28 February 2011, Monday (today). Ekadashi begins on 27 February at 5.15 pm and ends at 6.21 pm on 28 February.
Vijaya Ekadasi vrat katha or the legend of this Ekadasi is associated with the Ramayana war. Before Ramayana war, the army of Lord Sri Rama built a bridge on sea to Lanka. The vanarasena completed the construction of bridge on this day. It is also said in Puranas that Lord Ram observed Vijaya Ekadasi vrat and killed Ravana without any obstacle.
