TTD, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, has decided to set up a gene bank for indigenous cows. As the race of indigenous cows (pure native breed cows) is facing threat from the foreign high yielding breeds, the decision of setting up the gene bank is very much appreciative.
As per the officials of TTD, they have made the detailed proposal ready and the bank is likely to be started this year. They also explained that the milk from the cross-breed cows is a threat to health while the indigenous cow milk is healthier.
As per the official sources of TTD, the gene bank may come up at Palamaner in Chittoor district in an area of 600 acres.
TTD will also set up cow protection centres in all districts of Andhra Pradesh in association with a Jain group. The main purpose of these proposed centres is to take care of the ageing cows till their death.
