The Hindu community will organize a national Sacred Hindu Art Festival in Surakarta, 15-17 June. About 10 regions, including Bali, will participate in the activity being held for the first time.
The Festival was organized to introduce sacred Hindu art to the people.
“All this time, people only knew Bali’s sacred art,” said the Committee Head, Sunarto. A lecturer from the Surakarta Institute of Art, I Nyoman Sukena, said that the sacred art was used for religious ceremonies.
“Even though they are the same fundamentally, each region has their own characteristics,” said Sunarto. The types of art in competition are namely gamelan (musical ensemble) or tembang (vocal music), Rejang dance and Sidakarya dance.
